IMUA E NA POKI’I SCHOLARSHIP APPLICATION
ABOUT THE IMUA E NA POKII SCHOLARSHIPS
It is with great pleasure that Moku o Kohala of the Royal Order of Kamehameha can offer students, with both educational as well as vocational goals, financial assistance via our Na Pokii Scholarship Program. The only requirements are that they are at least 18 years of age, reside in the Kohala Nui Area (Waikoloa to Honokaa), fill out our application and write on any three of the six essay questions. There is no word minimum or emphasis on grammar but the more you share and tell us about yourselves the better you will be evaluated. There will be 4 scholarships offered. Two for educational and two for vocational pursuits.

ROYAL ORDER OF
KAMEHAMEHA I MOKU O KOHALA
The Royal Order of Kamehameha was established by Kamehameha V in 1865 to honor his grandfather King Kamehameha I. Membership was based on meritorious service to the Hawaiian Kingdom. As a result, several prominent people of Hawaii including kings, queens and emperors from around the world who supported the Hawaiian Kingdom, were knighted by the Order. After the illegal overthrow, the Order was forced underground and became a secret society. In 1902 under the direction of Prince Jonah Kuhio Kalanianaole, the Order reorganized but this time as a fraternal organization, based on charity and benevolence. In 1907 Kuhio created chapter 1 of the Royal Order of Kamehameha.
In 2011, Moku o Kohala was organized as chapter 9 of the Order representing the Kohala district and the homelands of Kamehameha I. It is presently one of ten chapters throughout Hawaii.
The members of our Moku find great pleasure and purpose in offering educational and vocational scholarships to deserving students who seek greater knowledge and whose intent is to serve their community and those less fortunate. ABOUT THE IMUA E NA POKII SCHOLARSHIPS
The established goal of Moku o Kohala is to award four (4) $1000 scholarships annually to educational and vocational applicants. Previous awardees may reapply for the scholarship awards. Awardees will be selected based on scholarship criteria and the quality of essay submissions.
